Murray sat stonefaced while the verdict was read but Chernoff looked dejected, Flanagan looked confused, and Gourjian looked like he couldn’t wait to bolt from the courtroom and put as much distance as possible between him and the rest of the defense team.

In recent days there has been much speculation over whether or not Murray will ever spend a night in jail for his crime, but the Honorable Judge Michael Pastor put a quick end to that by immediately remanding him into custody without bail. The poetic justice of the move wasn’t lost on me, and please pardon me while I state without qualification that I was pleased and not a bit sorry when officers led the ex-doctor from the courtroom with his hands cuffed behind his back.

One is left to wonder how long before Nicole Alvarez and her Instrument dump Murray like a hot potato now that he is a convicted felon, and an unemployed one at that. What will Murray do for a living now? And really, does anybody care?

Michael was twice dragged through the mud of the criminal justice system, and twice justice prevailed. He was invincible, he was unbreakable — he is gone from this world but he will never, ever be forgotten.

Justice for Michael Jackson. Again.

“The film crew has been interviewing Dr. Murray all morning, and cameras will be rolling when he is notified by his attorney, Ed Chernoff, that a verdict has been reached. Dr. Murray gave a one hour interview last night, after court ended. Dr. Murray will probably have a camera crew in the car with him when he goes to the courthouse when a verdict is formally announced. The film crew would potentially be filming Dr. Murray’s final moments of freedom” a source close to the doctor tells us.

How Murray is planning to pay for his defense has been a topic of much speculation, and apparently we’ve got our answer, folks.  It seems that he was hoping to command a sum of one million dollars in exchange for laying his soul bare for the cameras, but it’s looking like he’ll receive somewhere in the neighborhood of a quarter of that.  Betcha he could squeeze another couple of bucks out of them if he’d show us exactly how it is he thinks Michael Jackson self injected those last 25 milligrams of propofol that he left laying around.  On himself.  I’d pay to see that.  Heck, I’ll wire him the money right now.

It seems that Dateline has expressed an interest in bringing this flagrant display of greed to a TV set near you.

Unbelievable.

His petition for review was rejected and he received nothing.

Prior to his father’s death, Michael’s stepmother sued him for slander, infliction of emotional distress, and invasion of privacy.  He filed a cross-complaint, alleging that she secretly recorded private telephone conversations he had with his father.  The court initially ruled in his favor and awarded him $120,000.00, but that award was later reduced to $10,000.00.

Perhaps this explains why he continues to practice law long after it’s clear to any and all that he’s lost whatever razor-sharp edge he might have at one time possessed, and why he’s willing to take on clients the likes of Conrad Murray: dude needs the money.

If Murray is convicted, neither Flanagan nor Chernoff are likely to be in great demand any time soon, in any jurisdiction anywhere, and even securing pro bono work could be challenging. The good news is that Walmart is an equal opportunity employer, and among the many things they don’t discriminate against is age (as evidenced by the sweet little old folks who greet you when you walk through their doors), which bodes well for elderly attorneys past their courtroom prime who aren’t yet ready to be full-time students of arts and crafts at the senior center.
